Research revealed that the use of additive manufacturing technology in industry was not very widespread due to a number of limitations:
- Most 3D printers and AM systems have a small printing area, which limits the size of the objects they can produce.
- Generally, printers with a large build area are not accurate enough.
- The majority of printers have only one extruder. This creates significant limitations in the production of complex tooling (when a complex mold requires the printing of so-called "supports").
